RAMI — Network of Moroccan Lawyers in Italy
The Italian-Moroccan legal network promoted by AGAMI to foster dialogue between legal systems, institutions and communities between Italy and Morocco
What is RAMI
RAMI — Network of Moroccan Lawyers in Italy is the historic network promoted by AGAMI APS and represents the association's first project dedicated to promoting Italian-Moroccan legal expertise. Born from the direct experience of professionals who grew up between two legal systems, two languages and two cultures, the network works to facilitate understanding of the relationship between Italian and Moroccan law and to support the Moroccan community in Italy in accessing legal information.
RAMI is the original nucleus from which RASI — Network of Foreign Lawyers in Italy was later born, today AGAMI's international network.
The history of the network
RAMI was founded in 2011 within the AGAMI project with the aim of building a stable legal bridge between Italy and Morocco. The network is the result of the concrete experience of lawyers who turned their personal and professional history into a service for the community, helping to bridge the gap between different legal systems and fostering greater awareness of rights in transnational situations involving citizens and families between the two countries.
RAMI is a transnational network active in both Italy and Morocco. Its member lawyers are registered with the Italian Bar Associations or the Moroccan Barreau and practise in their respective legal systems with full professional independence.
This dual grounding makes it possible to interpret legal situations not only from a regulatory standpoint but also from a cultural and institutional one.
The project's objectives
Eight lines of work
Providing information on rights and duties in Italy
Dissemination of accessible legal information in the languages of the Moroccan community: workers' rights, family law, access to social and health services, immigration and residence regulations, protection against discrimination, together with knowledge of the obligations laid down by the Italian legal system.
Monitoring legislative developments in the two countries
An observatory function on the dialogue between Italian and Moroccan law, following ongoing legislative reforms and analysing their concrete impact on Italian-Moroccan citizens.
Promoting knowledge of Italian-Moroccan family law
Particular attention to the comparison between the Moudawwana and Italian law in transnational family situations: recognition of marriages celebrated in Morocco, effects of divorce, child custody, succession across different legal systems.
Fostering dialogue between arbitration and commercial systems
Mutual knowledge of arbitration instruments and commercial rules in the two countries, in support of alternative dispute resolution within the Italy–Morocco economic corridor.
Providing information on transnational employment and social security
Information on the rights of Moroccan workers in Italy, on the recognition of social security entitlements accrued in the two countries and on bilateral social security agreements.
Promoting international judicial cooperation
Knowledge of the cooperation instruments between Italy and Morocco: recognition of judgments, civil and criminal judicial assistance, cooperation procedures between judicial authorities.
Strengthening dialogue with the institutions of the two countries
Dialogue with Italian and Moroccan municipalities, prefectures, consulates, ministries and professional bodies, in order to represent the community's needs before the competent institutions.
Developing proposals for bilateral legal cooperation
A study commission is working on a technical proposal for a bilateral convention on family law between Italy and Morocco, to improve the mutual recognition of legal instruments and judicial decisions.
Who belongs to the network
The RAMI network comprises more than fifteen lawyers active between Italy and Morocco, professionals of Moroccan origin or with specific expertise in Italian-Moroccan law. Members are registered with the Italian Bar Associations or the Moroccan Barreau and practise in their respective legal systems with full professional independence.
Over the years RAMI and AGAMI have promoted conferences, round tables and institutional meetings in Italy, in Morocco and in international venues, contributing to the development of comparative legal dialogue on topics such as women's rights, international judicial cooperation and family law in transnational relations.
