Why AGAMI

A legal and human bridge between Europe, Africa and the Mediterranean: why a centre such as AGAMI is necessary today

The rationale of a project

Translating the distance between legal systems into dialogue

Between Europe, North Africa and the Mediterranean, people, families, professionals and businesses move every day. Their lives cross different borders, languages and legal systems, yet the tools to engage in dialogue between these legal systems often remain fragmentary. AGAMI was founded to bridge this distance: to transform complexity into shared knowledge and the encounter between legal cultures into concrete cooperation.

It is neither a partisan initiative nor a commercial desk: it is a research centre and an association for social promotion that places legal knowledge at the service of people, institutions and the common good.

The value of AGAMI

Six reasons that guide our work

Intercultural legal dialogue

We compare different legal systems, traditions and legal languages, seeking what brings them closer rather than what divides them.

Euro-Mediterranean bridge

We connect the two shores of the Mediterranean — with particular attention to the Italy-Morocco axis — as a space for study, exchange and cooperation.

Access to rights

We work so that fundamental rights are knowable and effective, especially for those who live between several legal systems and risk being left at the margins.

Cooperation

We build networks between universities, professionals, institutions and civil society, because knowledge grows when it is shared.

Training and research

We produce comparative legal research and training paths, valuing in particular the new generations of scholars.

Protection of vulnerable people

We place the dignity of the person at the centre: transnational families, minors, women and those facing journeys of migration and integration.

The role of practitioners

Alongside those who make rights effective

Lawyers, judges, mediators, researchers, social workers and institutions are the protagonists of the dialogue between legal systems. AGAMI offers them a place for study, dialogue and collaboration: analytical tools, opportunities for meeting and a network of qualified expertise at the service of cooperation.

  • Comparative research and documents usable in practice.
  • Spaces for dialogue between professionals from the two shores.
  • An accessible and qualified network of expertise.
  • Constant attention to the rights of vulnerable people.
